Hello…I am addicted to tarantulas. (More new additions!)

I went back to the shop today because I’d been meaning to bring in my mature male A. avicularia, because I didn’t want to just have him die…hopefully they’ll get him to have babies with a cute fuzzy girl, or they’ll know someone else that needs a male. The guy molted in OCTOBER 2010, and I’ve forgotten to bring him ever since then! I tried to get him to make babies with my other one that I *think* is female, but she might not be mature enough…and…might not be female ;) Sexing is hard!

Anyways, while I was donating my avic to the shop, I also glanced at the website first before I left…and I picked up a Pseudhapalopus sp.”Blue Rump”, and a 1.25″ A. versicolor. I loved the colors of the Pseudhapalopus…I googled pics of grown ones, they look like they have a steel greyish body & legs with a slight blue sheen, and the rump is bright midnight blue. They’re GORGEOUS…and really hard to get a hold of. So I had to jump on the chance at one…this thing is by far the smallest tarantula I’ve ever owned, and the most expensive one I’ve owned at that size! This thing is about 1/8″ of an inch! It looked like I was buying an empty jar with dirt inside. But then you can see a transparent speck running around so I knew there was something inside!

The A. versicolor, I didn’t get one for so long because I wasn’t really into their adult colors, but I do want a really striking display pet for my little arboreal cage, and they’re more calm than the A. avicularias…when they brought out the 30 containers with them…they were ALL so cute, I couldn’t NOT get one. I have to see what all the hype is about for myself, some made cool webs, and others weren’t interested in webbing…I picked one that seemed calm, and it didn’t have a web made, so at least I know it won’t be hiding in the web tube the entire time! This is called strategy! hahahah

I got home and gently brushed the hairs on the A. versicolor’s rear leg & the little thing FREAKED OUT & started running around in circles like crazy!! I though .oO(Ohhh great, this one is a psycho!)…then I figured maybe it would calm down once it’s not inside its little container…so I sat down over the fluffy dog bed & opened up the container, the little guy strolled right out onto my hand & was SUPER CALM! It was just walking around & exploring my hands..I think I had him out for at least an hour, it never freaked out on my hand nearly as bad as when it freaked out inside the container (THANK GOD!). Maybe the paintbrush just scared it because it’s a big brush for such a tiny little spider. The thing takes the cutest steps with its little chubby toes & long legs…I’m glad its handleable & I hope it stays that way!
